Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer

Incorporating five business streams, Downer Engineering offers comprehensive in-house engineering capability including civil, structural, process, chemical, mechanical and electrical expertise. Working with customers in mining operations for over 75 years, Mineral Technologies, a subsidiary of Downer, delivers innovative, cost effective process solutions for Iron Ore, Mineral Sands, Silica Sands, Coal, Chromite, Gold, Tin, Tungsten, Tantalum and a wide range of other fine minerals worldwide.

Due to continued business growth and an increasing portfolio of work in 2021, we are now seeking applications from Mechanical Engineers – Internship/University Part Time to join our team in St. Augustine, Florida. Working within a collaborative and dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all facets of engineering aspects from development of process diagram through testwork, conceptual study and feasibility study to detailed design as well as site visits. Applicant will also be exposed to various project engineering and business development activities.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
§ To assist with technical investigations and complete appropriate design calculations to ensure engineering decisions are based on sound engineering practice.
§ To develop technical design reports, and ensure project design deliverables meet customer requirements, minimum design standards and quality standards.
§ To contribute in project managing efforts to ensure on time delivery at the highest quality.
§ To perform site visits to assist project teams.
§ To develop 2D and/or 3D deliverables as required by the project using the Company preferred software.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you will require:
§ In final/penultimate year in Mechanical Engineering Degree - Essential
§ Ability to use and exposure to computer packages for drafting, design, structural analysis, project planning, project financial management, reporting and presentation - Desirable
§ Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral mediums with peers and clients – Essential
§ Ability and desire to learn as well as having a great sense of ownership – Essential

Successful applicant will be based in St. Augustine, Florida, reporting to the Engineering leader in the region, working alongside other engineers in Florida and globally.
